Today, as we seek new ways to reduce our ecological footprint and achieve energy independence, more attention is being given to environmentally friendly and energy-efficient residential home concepts. Creating a house that behaves like a tree – fully autonomous and environmentally conscious – is not only an innovation but also an important step towards a cleaner environment. Such an individual home project would not only harness solar and wind energy but also integrate technologies that allow for water purification and reuse, oxygen production, and CO2 reduction. In our research, we aimed to find out if today’s technologies allow for transforming a residential house or apartment complex into a completely autonomous entity that preserves the environment and behaves like a tree, not just in theory but in practice. Our vision was to create a home that, with the help of solar and wind energy, would generate electricity not only for direct use but also to produce green gases, using CO2 capture, membrane water distillation, and hydrogen and oxygen separation processes through electrolysis. We analyzed the availability, costs, and payback of such technologies in Lithuania. Unfortunately, our research revealed that some of these technologies are not currently available. However, even without all of the technologies, a green home project is still possible. We are sharing a guide that provides innovative and environmentally friendly solutions, along with practical tips.
